So let me tell you a story about a girl who was good at math … I mean, really good. She placed into her advanced math classes around 6th grade and it only got better from there. By the time she finished her Junior year of high school, she was acing Calc 2 and loving it! She dreamed of being a physicist … or a stellar cartographer … or a TV producer … or a film critic … or a historian …
As you might have guessed, that girl was ME and I did not choose to become any of those things, although the closest might be some combination of film critic and historian. Needless to say, I have not done a lot of math since I’ve gotten to college. It’s not that I’m not good at math or that I don’t like math (quite the opposite), I just found other subjects that captivate me more. Now not taking math wouldn’t normally be a problem ….except for the GREs …
In case you don’t know, the GRE is the evil older sister of the SAT, and I do mean evil (and I know a lot about being the evil older sister, ask my lil’ bro, haha). The verbal section doesn’t worry me in the least, which is good since that’s the section that will count the most when I’m applying to Grad Schools.
But, the math section is going to KILL ME! For starters, I haven’t had a multiple choice test since freshman year of college. I haven’t had a real math class since junior year of high school (I took Prob & Stat senior year … ah senioritis …) and I certainly haven’t had any geometry since 8th grade!!!
Partly, the fact that I’m going to fail is my fault — I may have waited until a week ago to start studying. Still, reteaching myself math is frustrating! Not because it’s hard, but because I’m realizing how much I have forgotten. Think about it … I’ve forgotten more mathematics than most of the world’s population will ever learn! Thank God my bosses let me take off almost all of my hours this week at my jobs (thank you! thank you! thank you!)!!!
So the test is tomorrow at 1pm … wish me luck! AH!
Good luck Vanessa!! I know you’ll do great! : )
But, the math section is going to KILL ME!

What field are you going into? I have a friend who got about a 400 or so on the Quantitative section, but he ended up with a scholarship to a History MA program.
I’m going into American Studies (Media and Communication is my focus, probably television and film). It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also a LOT of work … ugh!
